NRM supporters petition president Museveni over Lira RCC’s involvement in land issues

Some National Resistance Movement-NRM supporters have petitioned Yoweri Museveni accusing Lira Resident City commissioner Lira Lawrence Egole of meddling in land issues in Lira city.

The four paged petition is signed by; Ken Allan Owani as lead petitioner and other NRM supporters and flag bearers including; Apili Eunice Ogwang, Ayo Proscovia Otyek, Ojara Grace, Opio Emmanuel, Akello Betty, Isaac Ogwal Ogweng and Odyel Basil.

They among others accuse Egole of influence to stop the issuance of a land title for land located on plot 28-37, Adea Kolneria close established in 2016 in the names of Apolo Lydia Susan but Owani and his group have claimed that Egole and Giso of Lira Sub County Olal Abdu alias Agaisaki connived with the land board to issue the title in the names of Apolo Lydia and when police started investigating the
matter they former refused to avail the land documents and have allegedly been threatening police investigators.

They also accuse Egole of threatening Lira district leaders to leave the district chambers in Lira City and transfer to Ogur Sub County to allow Lira City to begin using their assets.

They allege that Egole also ordered the recent arrest of secretary Lira district land board Francis Okello Olwa who was found ferrying Lira district land documents that Olwa was supposedly trying to
protect.

Following the arrest of Okello Olwa, they allege that Egole Lawrence Emmy wrote to minister of lands Judith Nabakoba to compel her to
suspend the district land board which has halted land transactions in
Lira district.

They further accuse Egole of using his brother who is the NRM
administrative secretary for Lira, to cause division among NRM
supporters through the transfer of the party offices from Barogole to
senior quarters at the home of Sam Engola which office became
operational following the death of former NRM vice chairman for
northern Uganda Jacob Oulanyah.

They also accuse Egole of causing investigation into how some
businessmen in Lira city obtained public land regardless of the fact
that he is an NRM member and the businessmen have been supporting NRM
candidates during campaigns.

Among the businessmen allegedly being investigated are; Bishop Tom
Ibrahim Okello who was offered land 16 years ago, Beja Charles the
proprietor of Olet Elyak company limited who financed MP Tony Ayo
during campaign, Patrick Olet the proprietor of St. Gracious who
supported Lira district chairman RCM Okello Orik’s campaign, Lawrence
Okello the proprietor of Oil Energy as Bosco Odongo Bodyguard the NRM
chairperson for Lira city.

The petitioners want the president to direct Egole to avail land
documents for the land registered in the names of Apolo Lydia Susan
for investigation, dismiss Egole from position of Lira RCC to allow
smooth investigation against him, and organize a harmonization meeting
between supporters of Oulanya and Sam Engola to unite them.

They also want Egole to return all land documents seized from Okello
Olwa, failure of which they will demonstrate against Egole in Lira
city.

Ken Allan Owani confirmed petitioning the president on the above matters.

But Lawrence Egole said the allegations are meant to bring him down
and tasked Owani and his group to produce evidence to support their
claims.
