UNRA hands over 120km part of Rwenkunye-Apac-Acholibur road to contractor

The Uganda National Roads Authority has handed over 120km road construction project to two contractors undertaking the construction of Rwekunye-Masindi port to Acholibur road. This stretch of road is one where, the projected affected persons have been fully compensated.
Kole North MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti also the general secretary, Lango parliamentary Group told Voice of Lango that in their monitoring visit of the project, UNRA notified them that 120 out of the 191 km of the road has been handed over to the contractors.
Opio said Gulsan Construction Company has done 20% of the work along Apac to Acholibur while 15% of the work has been done on Rwekunye to Apac stretch.
He said also 70% of the project affected persons have been compensated.
Opio however noted that the project is being affected by a move by locals of Mutu in Kole district to drag the contractor to court, demanding for 500 million shillings compensation for the rock that they have been quarrying for the project since they have been depending on it as a source of livelihood.
