Oyam North by-election set for July

The electoral commission has set Thursday 6th July 2023, as the date in which the by-election to replace the fallen former MP also Minister of state for Labor Charles Patrick Okello Engola Macodwogo will be held.

The seat felt vacant on the 2nd of May 2023 following the death of Okello Engola who was killed by his body guard Wilson Sabiti.

According to the released program signed by the secretary to electoral commission  Leonard Mulekwah Russel the electoral body has gazetted 6th July 2023 as the date in which the by election will take place.

In the same program, nomination of candidates will take place for two days from the 19th to the 20th of June 2023, meanwhile campaigns will begin from the 22nd of June 2023 to 4th of July 2023.

The Electoral Commission public relations officer , Paul Bukenya told Voice of Lango Fm that the EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi will unveil the entire program on Thursday 18th 2023 at the Oyam District Headquarters during a stakeholders meeting.

Bukenya says the commission will also use the meeting to address stakeholders on some of the concerns they could be having for the by election.

The District Returning Officer of Oyam, Richard Onoba told Voice of Lango Fm that the electoral body is making all the necessary preparations to ensure that the by-election is held as scheduled.

More than four people have sofar shown interest to contest for the Oyam North By election including the son of the former MP, Samuel Engola Junior Okello, former diplomat Ambassador Julius Peter Moto, investor Queen Dorothy Amolo, Lawyer Chrispus Ayena Odongo and Dr Eunice Apio Ebil
