UPC in talks with other opposition parties to front joint candidate for Oyam North by-election

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) is considering engaging other opposition parties to front a joint opposition candidate for Oyam north by-election.

UPC secretary general Fred Ebil Ebil said in 2016 general elections, opposition political parties fronted Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku as a joint candidate for Oyam north election and now that she has been elected as UPC flag bearer for Oyam north by-election, they hope to garner support for her from other political parties.

Ebil said he will engage the secretary general of National Unity Platform and Forum for Democratic Change to support Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku in the race for Oyam north by-election.

The secretary general of the National Unity Platform, David Luiz Rubongoya said at the moment they are in the process of electing their flag bearer in the election, but acknowledged a possibility of agreeing to front a joint opposition candidate with other opposition political parties.

The deputy secretary general of Forum for Democratic Change Harold Kaija said they have elected Newton Freddy Okello as their flag bearer for Oyam North by-election but added that they are open to the proposal of fronting a joint opposition candidate in the election.

Oyam District UPC chairman Nelson Adea Akar said the party has massive support in Oyam and asked other political parties to rally behind them to win this election.
