Lira City leaders task contractor to complete beautification, fencing of mayors’ garden by June

Lira City Council leaders have tasked Dubai Garden Center Limited, a contractor hired to beautify and fence off City hall headquarters, to complete the works in three months.

According to the contract terms, signed by both parties, the works on the mayor’s garden which will cost Lira City Council shillings 834M is expected to be completed by 28th of June 2024.

This was revealed on Tuesday during the official site hand over to the contractor at a ceremony presided over by the City leaders including the RCC Lawrence Emmy Egole, Mayor Sam Atul and the Town Clerk Theophillas Tibihika.

According to the breakdown of the project components,  beautification and landscaping will cost shillings 82M, erecting chain link fence will take shillings 188M, construction of guard house will take 195M, construction of public toilet will take 180M, construction of canteen and restaurant 115M meanwhile construction of vehicle’s shed will take 60M

Speaking during the handover of the contract for mayors’ garden fencing to Dubai Garden Center Uganda Ltd, Lira Resident City Commissioner Lawrence Egole asked the public to embrace this development meant to improve the face of Lira City adding that the Presidency is impressed with the works so far.

Egole lashed at councilors who are against the beautification project urging them to always speak with valid facts, rather that badmouthing other leaders.

City Mayor Sam Atul in his address says once the works are completed, the garden will provide space for hire, provide canteen and restaurant which will increase the revenue stream of the city.

He urged the people of Lira to believe in them much as they were not consulted on which project the City should undertake with the shillings 2.5B saving from USMID program. He says they are doing it in the spirit of selling Lira City to the World.

Lira City Town Clerk, Theophilus Tibihika said they have been permitted by Ministry of Lands to utilize the USMID bonus shillings 2.5 B to undertake the mayors’ garden projects.

Okello Alfred from Dubai Garden Center, Uganda Ltd expressed optimism that the project would be executed successfully.
