Outbreak of red eyes disease reported in Oyam district

An outbreak of red eyes disease has been reported in Oyam district.

The assistant District Health Officer of Oyam, Dr. Caroline Agaro confirmed the outbreak of the disease yesterday.

Dr. Agaro said the disease was confirmed at Loro SS, Oyam prison and some schools in Oyam Town Council and Minakulu Town Council.

She said they have launched mass sensitization about the disease and its preventative measures.

Dr. Agaro asked the public to embrace proper sanitation and hygiene including regular washing of hands and eyes to prevent contracting the disease.

Geoffrey Opio, the deputy head teacher of Loro Secondary School confirmed the outbreak of red eye disease among students at his school.

Opio said the affected students have been on treatment and only about 20 are still in recovery process.

Celestino Omac, the LC1 chairman of Minakulu trading center “A” said the diseases has also been reported in three households in  Minakulu town council.

Early this year, the Ministry of health announced an outbreak of red eyes disease in some schools across the country.
