Ayena Odongo rejoins UPC party

Former lawyer of the International Criminal Court Krispus Ayena Odongo has rejoined the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party from the National Resistance Movement party.
Speaking in Oyam town council, Ayena Odongo said on 05/07/2023 he had left the UPC before president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Tegony primary school in Iceme town council during campaigns for NRM candidate in Oyam north by-election Samuel Engola Junior, following the death of Col Rtd. Patrick Charles Okello Engola.
On 2nd May 2023, Okello Engola was shot dead by his body guard at his home in Kampala leaving Oyam North sit vacant.
Addressing journalists, Ayena confirmed that he has let the NRM to return to UPC and he has been consulting UPC members in Abok and Ngai and also met the UPC party president about his return to the party.
UPC secretary general Fred Ebil Ebil asked Ayena to formally write to the party confirming his return to UPC.
Chris Ongom the UPC vice chairperson for Northern Uganda said Ayena called and informed him about his return to the party but added that the party president Jimmy James Michel Akena Obote has not yet confirmed the matter to him.
Nelson Adea Akar the UPC party chairman for Oyam district said there is nothing wrong with Ayena rejoining UPC party.
