Bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Lango John Charles Odur Kami has asked government not to close Canon Lawrence Primary Teachers College among Primary Teachers Colleges set to be scrapped off.

Twenty three Primary Teachers Colleges (PTCs) are set to close indefinitely as the government officially phases out Grade III and Grade V teaching qualifications in favor of a bachelor’s degree in Education.

In Lango, Canon Lawrence Primary Teachers College is among the PTCs that are supposed to be scrapped off.

Government plans to turn the PTCs into either secondary of technical schools.

But Bishop Kami while closing the National Ball Games at Dr Obote College and St Katherine secondary school on Sunday tabled a request to government through the state minister of sports Peter Ogwang not to close Canon Lawrence Primary Teachers College.

Bishop Kami asked government to instead upgrade the school to a Core PTA

Minister Peter Ogwang said he will forward the matter for discussion and report back their resolutions.
