Lira city west division councilors seek to censure speaker

Councilors of Lira city West division are today expected to sit for a council meeting seeking to censure, the speaker, Allan Okello.

The emergency council meeting has been summoned by the clerk to council, Jimmy Angole.

According to an invitation letter written by Angole to councilors whose copy has been seen by Voice of Lango fm the issues on the order paper include; 1, arrival of councilors by 9am, 2. Opening prayer, and 3, Motion to censure speaker and closure.

Angole confirmed summoning councilors for the meeting.

Lira City West division council speaker, Allan Okello said today’s council meeting is illegal since he is the only person mandated to summon a council meeting.

He said the meeting is being pushed by some people who are battling corruption cases to push him out of office.

Okello said he has informed police of North Kyoga about the planned council meeting and police is ready to foil this illegal council meeting.

Mugisha James one of the councilors of Lira city West division said he will attend the council meeting once he receives an invitation.

Mike Ogwal however said this council meeting is illegal and may attract legal penalties against the division. Ogwal however said the will attend the meeting.
