Abubaker Technical Service workers strike over delayed payment

Roads construction in Lira City under Uganda Support to Municipality Infrastructural Development USMID program was interrupted this morning after casual laborers laid down their tools over an allegation of nonpayment of their wages.

The irate workers numbering 30 who were working on Boundary Road stormed Voice of Lango this morning accusing the project contractor, Abubarker Technical Service of failing to pay them despite raising concern on the same.

Dicken Okeny who is one of the casual laborers of the company said according to their work contract they were supposed to be paid shs 25,000 per day but the company is failing to honor this agreement.

Bony Ojuka accused the company of not respecting the rights of its employees.

However, the General Manager of Abubarker Technical Services who declined to reveal his name said the workers will be paid soon.

Al Nuami Group and Abubakar Technical Services were awarded the contract to make improvements on existing roads such as Note-Ber road, Olwol road, Coronation Park, Boundary Road, Obangakene and Aber road. They are also expected to construct a children’s park at the former Adyel Division Headquarters.
