Traffic police officer, two others killed in road crash along Lira-Soroti road

A traffic police officer has perished in a road crash which occurred in Amach, along Lira- Soroti road in Lira district after he was knocked by a double cabin pick up on Thursday Morning.

Tony Atine an eye witness said the crash occurred after a double cabin vehicle registration number; UG 0337G attached to ministry of internal affairs that was heading towards Lira city knocked a motorcycle registration number UEU 841C as well as two girls before it swerved off the road and proceeded to knock dead the traffic officer identified as Micah Muhindo

Atine said Bob Odongo who was riding the motorcycle died while being rushed to Lira regional referral hospital while one of the girls broke her leg and the other got an injury on the head.

He blames the crash on speeding by the driver of the ill-fated vehicle.

North Kyoga region police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said police visited the crash scene and took the injured persons who include; Bob Ojok, Richard Angullu and Robby Akidi to Lira Regional Referral Hospital but Evester Akello, 16, died upon reaching the hospital.

Okema said the driver of the ill-fated vehicle Constable John Oginere is being held at Lira central police station.
