Tensions building up in NRM joint campaigns in Dokolo
Tensions are building up among National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and aspirants in Dokolo District, as disagreements mar the ongoing joint campaigns for party flag bearers.
Joseph Jones Ogwal, one of six aspirants vying for the NRM ticket for Dokolo North Member of Parliament, has accused Rafael Okello, the district party publicity secretary, of defamation.
Ogwal alleges that Okello has been spreading false claims about him on social media and local radio stations, including accusations that he was involved in a fight against the joint campaign program leader.
The dispute reportedly stems from a minor disagreement between Ogwal and Ivan Apenyo, popularly known as Mr. Van, who is leading the joint campaign program that took place in Bata Sub-county.
Ogwal further alleges that Okello has been openly supporting the incumbent MP for Dokolo North, Moses Ogwal Goli, by accompanying him on campaign trails — an action he believes compromises neutrality.
However, Rafael Okello has denied the accusations, stating that his involvement in campaign activities is purely to offer guidance to aspirants.
Geoffrey Opio Ekong, the NRM district chairperson, confirmed receipt of Ogwal’s complaints and noted that similar grievances have been filed by other aspirants against Okello.
