Lira City East Division meeting flops over speaker’s illness

A council meeting for Lira city East division that was supposed to take place Yesterday flopped after the speaker fell sick.

By 10:00am, most of the councilors had arrived for the council meeting that was supposed to be held at Lira Hotel but they were later informed that the speaker Alyela Daniel was admitted at Ronam Clinic,Lira city with a sickness and the council meeting could not proceed.

Some councilors who pleaded for anonymity alleged that Alyela had become depressed by the issue of approving the division area land committee which elevated his blood pressure.

The deputy speaker of Lira city East division Okeng Hassan said  Alyela yesterday tested positive for malaria and had high blood pressure and was unable to write to her, to allow her preside over Yesterday’s council meeting.

Lira city East division Mayor George Okello Ayo said they visited Alyela whom they found on drip, adding that the speaker will convene another council meeting once his health improves.

Boke ward councilor, Ojok Walter said they expected to approve the Area Land Committee and health management Unit committee in Yesterday’s council meeting.

The councilor of Bar-Onger Ward Martin Onyanga said Alyela should have delegated his deputy to preside over the council meeting.

Alyela was not reachable for comments by press time since his phone was switched off.
