MP Akena Obote tasks government to fulfill pledge of constructing Akii Bua stadium

Party President of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) also Lira city east division MP has tasked government to construct Akii Bua stadium which was a presidential pledge.

Akena also cautioned Lango MPs who are supposed to meet president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House, over Akii Bua stadium construction not to beg for construction of the stadium since it was already in government’s plan.

Addressing Lango province players following their 1-1 draw against Acholi province in the fufa drum second leg quarter final played yesterday, Akena said president Museveni should look for alternative funding for Akii Bua stadium construction if government lacks funds for the same.

Akena said as Lango MPs they will continue advocating for Akii Bua stadium construction so that the stadium can host the upcoming Afcon 2027.

Kilak South MP, Gilbert Olanya said Akii Bua stadium should be constructed for the people of northern and eastern Uganda.

Lira city mayor, Sam Atul cautioned those fighting the construction of Akii Bua.

Lira District chairman RCM Okello Orik cahllenged leaders of Lango and Acholi to work hard to ensure Akii Bua stadium is constructed.

Lango Province chairperson Geoffrey Odur asked MPs to forward to parliament the issue of taxing fufa drum games, since the tournament is meant to promote culture but not a business.
