Amb Amoru elected treasurer of EAC envoys in Pretoria

Uganda’s High Commissioner to Pretoria, South Africa Paul Amoru Omiat has been elected as the inaugural treasurer of the East Africa Community member states envoys in Pretoria.

The election was held on Thursday in Pretoria following the formation of the East Africa Community envoys association in Pretoria.

The Association brings together Heads of Missions of East African Community member states in Pretoria including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and South Sudan.

Simon Duku, South Sudan’s Ambassador to Pretoria was elected as the Chairperson, James Bwana of Tanzania was voted deputy Chair, Alexis Bukuru of Burundi was elected as the Advisor meanwhile Uganda’s Paul Amoru Omiat was elected as the treasurer.

In his speech following his election, Amoru said that  EAC ambassadors in Pretoria aim to position the region as a hub for tourism and investment. “We will emphasize collaboration, cultural heritage, and engagement with the diaspora. we are united in our mission” ,said Amoru.

To bolster the envoys’ association work, Amoru says they will have quarterly engagements in order to advance their common interests, strengtheni g ties, and promoting EAC’s common market.

Amoru who served Dokolo North, as its first Member of Parliament described their commitment to regional integration as unwavering.
