30 Children arrested in Oyam, over sale of goods on school day

Police at Oyam Central Police Station have arrested 30 Children who are believed to be school going pupils in Kamdini Town Council, Oyam District who were found selling goods on school day.
The pupils were arrested Wednesday afternoon in an operation commanded by Oyam DPC SP Edison Muhangi together with the District Probation Officer and local leaders.
They were found selling goods at Kamdini main market and along the road side on Wednesday.
Muhangi told journalists that the operation was meant to fight infringement on the children’s right to education.
Muhangi also cautioned school authorities against sending home, pupils for defaulting fees which is also an infringement on their rights.
Moses Omara the LC1 chairman of Township Cell, Western Ward, Kamdini Town Council said Kamdini town council has set a fine of shs50,000 to be levied on parents who will be found keeping their children at home during school days.
Morine Atim said her child who was arrested had been sent back home for defaulting school fees.
