Top officials from the Inspectorate of Government are expected to camp in Lira City and District for two days to monitor the implementation of Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program (USMID) and the Parish Development Model project.
In 2021/2022 financial year, government rolled out the PDM program where each parish was allocated 100 million shillings and each household one million shillings from the total of shillings 1 Trillion earmarked by government.
Meanwhile, under the USMID project, government disbursed a total of 37 Billion for the upgrading of five roads including Boundary, Uhuru,Note Ber, and Olwol to Bitumen and also construction and beautification of the Children’s park at Adyel and Coronation park.
Speaking to Voice of Lango FM Wednesday , the Deputy Inspector General of Government Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria said the monitoring visit is intended to mainstream transparency, accountability and anti-corruption in all government programs.
Dr Achan says this holistic anti corruption strategy which is premised on pre-empting ,preventing and identifying corruption related risks for their swift action.
The ombudsman leader added that they want to empower the masses with knowledge about corruption, mobilize and empower citizens to be at the frontline in the fight against corruption.
Achan noted that that they have now branded the war against corruption to be a citizen war and want the people to be alert in raising the red flag, and reporting the cases of corruption to the Inspectorate of government.
“The citizens are the true victims of corruption because they are the ones who go to hospital and don’t get drugs, take children to school and don’t get teachers, they are at a loss when money meant for service delivery is stolen by some greedy people” said Achan
It’s not good at all, to let the children go for petty petty selling on school days, and at the end you expect him/her to perform in class
