Lira city Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party chairman under Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s (Katonga) faction, Bonny Ogongson Otyama has called for seizure of property of people implicated in corruption.
Otyama said government should take such action against some MPs who are currently facing corruption charges to serve as a deterrent to the corrupt.
Otyama said those implicated in corruption should have their property seized, auctioned and the money accrued from sell of their property should be used to replace the misused funds.
This comes a few days after the arrest of Igara East MP, Michael Mawanda Maranga, Elgon county MP, Ignatius Wamakuyu Mudimi and Busiki county MP, Paul Akamba over loss of 7.3 billion shillings for Buyaka Growers Cooperatives Society Limited.
Meanwhile, other MPs including Yusuf Mutembuli for Bunyole County, Paul Akamba and Cissy Namujju were also recently arrested over alleged corruption.
Prosecution averred that the trio offered to lobby Parliament’s Budget Committee to increase the annual allocations of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, on condition that 20 percent of the increment was passed back to them.
Recently Kwania county MP, Tonny Ayo, welcomed the arrest of MPs over corruption which he said will serve as a warning to other people involved in corruption tendencies.
