Lira Resident Attorney on the spot over alleged theft of President Museveni’s portrait

Lira district Resident State Attorney Zerald Peter Amalu could most likely face the Anti-Corruption court after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions consented to charges of embezzlement preferred against him by police in relation to alleged theft of office property including a portrait of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
It is alleged that Peter Amalu between 2021 and 2022, at the time the Directorate of Public Prosecutions deployed him to work as the resident state attorney of Dokolo district reportedly stole four office fans, two filing cabinets, one water dispenser and presidential portrait that were in his office.
The case of embezzlement against Amalu, a resident of Omito Ward, Lira City West division is registered as CRB 139/2022.
The police charge sheet received by the Anti-Corruption court on 15th July 2024 and signed by Director of Public Prosecutions, Jane Frances Abodo states that, the office property reportedly stolen by Amalu are valued at shs10, 000,000. (Ten million ugandan shillings)
The public relations officer of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions Jacqueline Okui by press time said she had not yet received a copy of the charge sheet but promised to get back to us later on.
