Felix Adupa Ongwech, a candidate vying for the Kyoga County MP seat in 2026, has expressed his discontent with the Ministry of Works and Transport’s in action regarding the deplorable state of the Amolatar-Dokolo road.
In a letter dated February 24, 2025, addressed to the Resident District Commissioner of Amolatar, Adupa emphasized the urgency of repairing the road during the current dry season.
He warned that if the ministry fails to take action, he will be forced to organize a civil demonstration to highlight the government’s neglect of this critical issue.
The aspirant noted that the road’s impassable condition during the rainy season has severely impacted the community’s development and participation in the monetary economy. As a candidate, Adupa is not alone in his concerns. The community has been vocal about the government’s unfulfilled promises, including the provision of ambulances, lobbying for the tarmacking of the Namasale-Dokolo road, and upgrading Amolatar Health Centre IV to a district hospital.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has faced criticism for its handling of road infrastructure projects in the region.
In a separate development, Col. Dr. John Francis Ongia, another aspiring MP for Kioga County, has pledged to advocate for key projects, including the long-delayed tarmacking of the Dokolo-Amolatar road. As the 2026 elections draw near, the state of infrastructure in Amolatar is likely to remain a contentious issue. Adupa’s threat of a civil demonstration underscores the community’s frustration with the government’s inaction and highlights the need for urgent attention to the region’s infrastructure challenges.
