Seven perish in Kalaki road crash

Seven people including four from Lango have died in a road crash after a trailer truck collided with a Taxi that they were travelling in along Lira-Soroti highway.

On Monday, at around 10pm a Taxi Registration number UBJ 836J that was from Soroti City collided with a trailer from Lira city killing seven people on the spot at Apapai trading center in Kalaki District.

Seven injured persons were rushed to Soroti regional referral hospital where they are admitted for medical attention.

Among people from Lango who perished in the accident include; Emmanuel Ocoma, 29, from Amugu, Aletong district who was an employee of Crystal crop protection-Lira city, Betty Ogwang from Teso Bar, Lira City and Scovia Abua, 45, from Nambieso, Kwania district, who was the sister to the manager of Agrisol Africa Ltd, as well as one person from Dokolo district identified as Isaac Ogwal.

Boniface Okello, the manager of Agrisol Africa Ltd said his sister Scovia Abua had gone to conduct business with her friend Betty Ogwang but all died on their way back to Lira city.

One of the employees of Crystal crop protection, Noteber Road Sarah Awelo, said Emmanuel Ocoma had gone to certify his academic papers at Busitema University and met his death on his way back home.

Edison Muhangi the District police commander of Kalaki District confirmed the crash and said police has opened investigation into the matter vide CAR 15/2022.

He said the driver of the vehicle is on the run while the names of the other victims will be availed later to the public since he was out of office by press time.
