Lira district HIV focal person Michael Okullo has called for strengthening of sensitization of women against engaging in risky sexual behavior which is contributing to a surge in HIV infections among women.

This comes after a report released by UNAIDS revealed that there’s an increase in HIV infection among women than men in Uganda.

Lira district HIV focal person Michael Okullo attributed the trend to lack of will from women to resist sexual advances from men and engaging in sex with multiple partners.

Okullo asked women to resist sexual advance from men and embrace couple testing for HIV before sex to reduce their chances of contracting the virus.

He asked parents to encourage their children to remain in school and to desist from love affair which puts them at risk of contracting HIV.

The HIV prevalence rate in Lango stands at 7.6% against the national prevalence rate of 6%.
