Won Nyaci of Lango visits late Geoffrey Okwir Gunya’s home

The Won Nyaci of Lango, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, together with over ten clan heads from Otuke and Alebtong districts, paid a condolence visit today to the home of the late businessman Geoffrey Okwir Gunya in Senior Quarters, Lira City.
While addressing the bereaved family, Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune eulogized Okwir Gunya as a visionary entrepreneur who had a close working relationship with him, especially during Gunya’s involvement in road construction projects.
He commended the late Gunya for his significant contributions to the development of the Lango sub-region, particularly through investments in real estate and youth empowerment initiatives.
Odongo Okune urged fellow clan heads to stand in solidarity with the family of Okwir Gunya and other clan leaders’ families during this difficult time and beyond.

Walter Okello Orwenyo, the current clan chief of Ober Oumolao Okwer-nguu in Lira City and a brother to the late Gunya, stated that they are awaiting official communication from the hospital in India regarding the costs associated with repatriating his body.
Geoffrey Okwir Gunya passed away yesterday at Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, India, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
Willy Omodo Omodo, Speaker of the Council of Owitong, described the late Gunya as a unifier and a key figure in resolving leadership disputes among clans.
He emphasized that Gunya’s passing has left a substantial void, not only in the business community but also in clan leadership and conflict resolution efforts.
The tentative program for the repatriation of the body is yet to be released.
However, the family will be holding daily planning meetings at the Apostolic Social Center in Lira City.
