Lira magistrates court remands UPDF officer over defilement

Lira grade one magistrate court on Tuesday/16th/2022 remanded a UPDF officer over defilement of a student who was under his care.

Rtd. Lt. Col. Stephen Aine on Tuesday appeared before court presided by Nanyanzi Pamela Percy Mary to answer the charges levied against him.It is alleged that Aine 39, who has been a resident of Teso Bar, Adyel Ward, Lira city West division since 2016 to August 2022, has been defiling the girl who is now 18 years old

Julius Peter Ogwang resident state attorney said what Aine did is contrary to section 3(1) (a) and section 5 (a) of prevention of trafficking in person Act 2009.

Lira grade one magistrate Pamela Percy Mary Nanyanzi said the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case and Aine was consequently remanded to Lira central government prison till 30/8/2022.

Rashida Adongo Okecha a human rights activist welcomed the ongoing trial of Aine.
