Lira city deputy Town Clerk accuses State House Anti-Corruption Unit of harassment

The deputy town clerk of Lira city council Patrick Ogweng has written to the directorate of public prosecution-DPP accusing the State House Anti-corruption unit of harassment in the ongoing investigation into the giveaway of Lira Mayors Garden land.
On 27/7/2022, investigators from the State House anti-corruption unit were in Lira city to record statements from some staff of Lira city council over the giveaway of plot 2 Isaza Ogwang Guzi road which is part of Lira mayor’s garden.
Among the staffs who were summoned to record statements were; Lira city surveyor, members of physical planning committee, clerk to council, senior human resource officer and the interdicted Lira city physical planner Geoffrey Omara.
However, It was reported that Patrick Ogweng, the deputy town clerk of Lira city council snubbed.
Now, Patrick Ogweng through his lawyer, Adam Makmot Kibwanga has written to the director of public prosecutions (DPP) accusing the State House Anti-corruption unit of harassment.
Ogweng said he has built a good reputation in public service for the past 19 years which has been erroneously accosted by State House Anti-corruption unit.
Ogweng said the State House Anti-corruption unit is trying to taint his public image and records of public service.
Ogweng also says that his signature was forged in a letter dated 30/8/2018 purported to have been signed by him for the giveaway of plot 2, Isaza Ogwang guzi road whereas it was not the case.
He accuses the State House anti-corruption unit of conniving with Lira ministry zonal lands office to author the letter to be used against him in the investigation into dubious land dealings in Lira city.
However when contacted for comments, Patrick Ogweng did not answer our calls.
The deputy DPP Irene Nakimbugwe by press time said she was going to get back to us after perusing through the letter written by Ogweng’s lawyer.
The legal officer of the State House Anti-corruption unit Samuel Arinaitwe who is leading the investigations into land transactions in Lira city and district said Ogweng is aiming to tamper with investigation against him.
Arinaitwe said they have adduced due evidence against Ogweng awaiting his trial in court.
