Otuke

Otuke district has registered over 8,000 cases of new HIV infections.

The development was revealed yesterday by Otuke assistant District Health Officer Patrict Opio while receiving food donations by E- Cairo to support children suffering from HIV.

Opio said in terms of percentage, the HIV infection rate in the district stands at 5.7%.

He said the infection rate is high among men, followed by women and children.

He attributed high HIV infection in the district to irresponsible drinking of alcohol, domestic violence and poverty among others.

Job Eluk who led the team of E-Cairo said the food donations that include beans and posho will be distributed in health facilities like Orum Health Centre IV, Olilim Health Centre III, Ogwete Health Centre III, Ogor Health Centre III among others.

Otuke district LC5 chairperson Francis Abola applauded E- Cairo for the donation saying most children suffering from HIV lack food.
