Museveni directs all flags to fly at half-mast in honor of Justice Rubby Opio Aweri

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed that flags must be flown at half-mast until the burial of the former Supreme Court Judge Hon Rubby Opio Aweri.

This is in honor of the fallen Supreme Court Judge as provided for in the administration of the judiciary act 2020 section 2 schedule 3 according to an official statement released Sunday afternoon by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Justice Opio Aweri who has also been serving as the Chief Inspector of Courts died Wednesday at Mulago National Refferal Hospital where he had been receiving treatment according to the judiciary.

Nabbanja says government has constituted a national organsising committee which will be chaired by the Minister for Presideny Milly Babalanda Babirye to oversee the funeral arrangements.

She described Justice Opio Aweri as a great towering legal mind who served the judiciary with utmost humility and commitment for nearly four decades.

According to the official funeral program,On Monday 12th December 2022, the body will be taken to the Judiciary headquarters Kampala,where a special Supreme Court session will be held in his honor.

On Tuesday 13th,there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero and later the cortege will be taken to Parliament for a session and thereafter the body will lie in state.

On Wednesday 14th December 2022, the body of the late will be taken to Lira City Hall for Lango leaders to pay tribute a sitiing which will begin at 2:0Pm

He will be laid to rest on Friday 16th December 2022, at Acung apenyi cell, Kachung Western Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District.
