Minister of Local government orders Lira City West Division to convene council meeting

Minister of local government Raphael Magyezi has directed leaders of City West division to convene a council meeting to present the draft budget and approve the area land committee on 2nd/May/ 2023.
According to the budget guidelines, the draft budget was supposed to be presented by 1st/ April but the speaker of Lira city west division Daniel Okello has been accusing the division Town Clerk and the mayor’s executive of always tampering with the council meeting and this could not allow them to present the draft budget.
In his letter to the mayor dated 26th /04/2023, minister of local government Raphael Magyezi tasked Lira City West division leaders to convene an emergency council meeting on 2/05/2023, to present the draft budget for FY 2023/2024, and approve the division area land committee land committee.
Minister Magyezi also said the council meeting should be chared by the speaker, although the deputy mayor and some councilors had proposed that it should be shared by the deputy speaker.
Magyezi also directed the RCC of Lira city and town clerk to attend this meeting to offer due advise.
He further tasked the division leaders to write a report on his directive by 5/05/2023.
Magyezi said the ministry of local government will begin the process of reconciling Lira city west division leaders on 9th/05/2023.
The deputy mayor of Lira city west division Rose Ongom by press time said they were still in a meeting to deliberate on Magyezi’s letter.
The speaker, Okello Daniel Okello after receipt of the letter deferred the council meeting that was supposed to take place Yesterday to 2/05/023 accordingly.
