SHACU returns to Lira seized land files

The State house anti-corruption unit has returned land files belonging to Lira district local government that were seized 17 months ago to Lira city and Lira district.

Brig Gen Henry Isoke, head of the State House Anti-Corruption unit handed over the files in Kampala.

The files were seized from the secretary, Lira district land board Francis Okello Olwa who was arrested transporting them during late hours which is illegal.

The chairperson Lira district land board Paul Cankoma said Brig. Gen Henry Isoke handed over 153 land files of Lira city council as well as 2,885 land title applications 18, land files and 18 land title applications for Lira district.

Cankoma said they also received; stamps for Lira district land board 3, seal 1, stamps 2 of the physical planner, 1 for the senior lands officer and one computer.

He said police from Lira central police station was also ordered to return Francis Okello Olwa’s vehicle that was confiscated during his arrest.

Two months ago, minister of gender, labor and social development Betty Amongi Akena wrote to Brig Gen Henry Isoke to return the confiscated land files that were not under investigation since withholding them was frustrating development in Lira city as business persons were not in position to access loans after their land documents being confiscated.

Joel Milton Aliro Omara the chairperson Lira city land board confirmed that the land titles were returned but the State House anti-corruption unit did not inform them of the progress of investigation into land issues in Lira city.
