Mp Auma accuses women leaders of stealing 20m Sacco funds

Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Linda Agness Auma Ojur has accused leaders of the district women council of misuse of 20 million shillings that was meant to support women SAACOs.

Auma Ojur who is the also the vice chairperson of National Women Council said she donated 10 million shillings each to Erute South and Erute North counties which was supposed to be used as a revolving fund for the women SACCOs but later learnt that the money was embezzled by the women council executive committee.

According to the vocal legislator, the leaders who allegedly embezzled the money kept a deaf ear to her to her inquiries for the accountability of how the money was distributed to the women Saccos.

Auma made the revelation during the distribution of 11 walking tractors to farmers’ groups in Lira District at the district production hall yesterday.

The vice chairperson of Lira District women council Christine Okullu when contacted by Voice of Lango for a comment, could not accept or deny the allegations.

Okullu asked our reporter to visit her at the office to get more more information on how the money was utilized.

Auma in her address, urged the farmers to utilize the tractors well to boost crop production.

Lira District chairman RCM Okello Orik asked farmers to use the tractors to produce crops on large scale.

Lira District production Coordinator, Thomas Okello asked farmers to use the tractors to grow highly profitable crops like coffee, Avocado and Maize among others.
