Outgoing Lango Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii has dismissed as false, media reports that he has appointed Uganda’s deputy head of Mission in Sudan Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul.

On Tuesday morning, both online news portals and main stream media carried stories saying that Pala Ocol clan head Amb.Dickson Ogwang Okul has been appointed as the new successor to the reigning Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii who will abdicate office in November 2024.

The reports claimed that Yosam Odur Ebii ,(94) ,in a secret and historic meeting held on Monday at his Teboke home and attended by his senior advisors and members of his close family named and blessed Ogwang Okul as his successor.

Among the people who reportedly witnessed yesterday’s event include; Frederick Ogwal Oyee an advisor to the Won Nyaci and also Inomo clan head, Dr Laury Lawrecne Ocen the clan head of Okarowok Wibye Acel, Anthony Olobo Odur, the son to the Win Nyaci and clan head of Atek Omwonpel, as well as Millie Odur the daughter to Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii.

Addressing the media Tuesday evening in Lira City, Lango Cultural Foundation Spokesman Jacob Ocen described the reports as false and asked people to disregard it.

He clarified that Odur only blessed Ogwang’s  election bid for the position of Lango paramount chief, if he contests in the November elections, given his boundless leadership capability.

Ocen said that, the blessing of Ogwang does not stop any other Awitong (Clan Head) for showing his interest in the coveted job.

In the near future Ocen says Odur Ebii will  appoint electoral commission and people interested in contesting for the position of Lango paramount chief under Lango cultural foundation will have opportunity to express their interests.

Yesterday at his home in Teboke, Apac district, the Won Nyacu of Lango, Ocen says Yosam Odur Ebii asked Dicken Ogwang Okul to begin consultations with other clan heads to support him in his bid to run for position of Lango paramount chief and also observe LCF constitution.

It is still not known how this will play out as majority of  Owitong have started robust mobilization for the coronation of Eng.Dr.Micheal Moses Odongo Okune as the new Won Nyaci at a function will be held on the 2nd of November 2024 at Lira Golf Course.

This follows election of Eng. Odongo Okune on the 1st of March 2024 at Akii Bua Stadium by over 1600 people drawn from more that 130 clans of Lango.
