Bodaboda riders in Lira city staged a protest this morning to show their dissatisfaction with the transfer of Lira City Police Commander, Abel Ruganza.
The riders, led by Owera Juma, chairman of the Lira city west division bodaboda riders’ association, marched to the office of Lira Resident City Commissioner, Lawrence Egole, carrying placards and demanding the withdrawal of DPC Abel’s transfer, the transfer of RCC Egole from Lira city, and for Minister of Health and Lira city woman MP, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, to stop interfering in security matters.
During the demonstration, Owera Juma expressed disappointment with the transfer of DPC Ruganza, highlighting his efforts in ensuring security among bodaboda riders in Lira city.
Additionally, Lira City female workers’ councilor, Sarah Awor Angweri, joined the protest and voiced concerns about the frequent transfer of DPCs from Lira, which she believes is contributing to the deterioration of security in the area.
She warned that the protest will continue if their concerns are not addressed and Ruganza’s transfer is not rescinded.
In response, RCC Egole urged the leaders of the bodaboda riders to submit a formal complaint to his office for redress and assured them that they will meet next week to discuss their welfare.

The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba recently reshuffled 145 police officers.
Outgoing Lira city police commander, Abel Ruganza told Voice of Lango FM that he has been transferred to Agago district and will be replaced by his counterpart from Agago.
Meanwhile, Wamala Regional Police Commander, ACP Stephen Onencan has been moved to north Kyoga region to replace ACP Obura Deo who recently retired.
