Locals in Kole district have expressed dissatisfaction with a service delivery report issued by the office of the Prime Minister, which highlighted the district’s poor performance within the Lango region.
The locals also raised concerns over the poor condition of roads in various parts of the district.
Residents living near Otiri Swamp in Otiri Village, Barongin Parish, Alito Sub County, criticized the substandard work done on the rehabilitation of Otiri Bridge, which connects Amuca in Lira City to Cuk Anekapiri in Alito Sub County.
They placed blame on district leaders, particularly LCV Chairman Andrew Moses Awany, for the shoddy work on the project, which cost Shs 20 million.
Residents of Apac Parish, Aboke Sub County, also reported substandard work on the rehabilitation of the Apedi to Opeta road.
Wangbodo Bridge at the border of Abil B and Barcik, also had issues, with broken culverts.
Ogwal Ojuku and Olum Ocale bridges along Ayer Seed SS road were equally poorly done, according to locals.
Jimmy Oceng Ajeki, LC1 Chairman of Tekidi Trading Center, criticized the work, pointing out that no new culvert lines were added, and the head wall was also not installed as required in the bill of quantity.
Aboke Sub County Chairman Cana Bonny was unavailable for comment, as his phone was off.
However, Bonny Owera, the Sub County Chief, explained that the culverts meant for Apedi Bridge were instead given to locals in Abako, Opeta Parish, where roads were in a worse condition.
Kole LCV Chairman Andrew Moses Awany was unavailable for comment.
However, he previously blamed MPs Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North and Peter Ocen Akalo of Kole for issuing false reports regarding the implementation of district projects, which contributed to their poor performance.
Kole district was ranked 10th in Lango and 136th in Uganda with a score of 47.38.
