The Chief Administrative officer (CAO) of Amolatar District has apologized over the delay of salary for secondary school teachers in the district.

Nawayo Brunu made the statement after his office was stormed by over 150 teachers who were demanding reasons why they have missed salary for the last two months.

Nawayo later held a meeting involving the Human Resource Officer, Head of Finance, accountant and the teachers’ representatives in which he blamed heads of departments for not informing him in time to enable him handle the matter.

Nawayo also informed the meeting that he has been tasked by the inspectorate of government to explain why some teachers are still not on the government payroll and why others have not yet been paid since January this year.

Tonny Dongole, the Human resource Officer said he was not able to process salary for the teachers because of technical glitches in the computer system.

Fedrick Opio, the teachers’ chairperson noted that the delay has demoralized most of the teachers in the district.

A section of teachers who spoke to us vowed not to teach if their salaries are not paid.
