The Lira High Court has set tomorrow 28th/February/2023 to hear a petition over the planned process of removal of Lira West Division speaker, Allan Okello.

The matter was supposed to be heard last week but was adjourned until tomorrow.

Okello’s lawyer Raymond Ongom of Gumtwero and Company Advocates however accused the mayor of Lira City West Division of using their lawyer to fix hearing of the matter without informing them yet they wanted an out of court settlement in the matter in the spirit of promoting peace and harmony.

Ongom however said they are ready to battle the matter in court with amendment of evidence.

Geoffrey Raymond Kakona who is representing Lira City West Division in the matter said Okello submitted his petition and never followed up.

Okello while addressing journalists said he took long to follow up his petition to give room for negotiation and amicable settlement of the matter out of court.

He accused Lira City secretary for finance James Omara Elem, Mayor of Lira City West Michael Ogwal Aconga and Town Clerk of City West Division Jimmy Angle of fixing the hearing date of the matter without informing him and his lawyer.

Attempts to get comments from Ogwal Aconga and Angole were futile since they did not respond to our repeated phone calls and Omara Elem’s phone number was off by press time.

Recently, Lango LCV chairperson in their meeting in Kwania district resolved to mediate the contestation of planned removal of speaker of Lira City West Division. The mayor of Lira City, Sam Atul promised to lead the mediation.
