The National Resistance Movement Party Treasurer for Lira City Geoffrey Etwop has been arrested by State House Anti-Corruption Unit over fraudulent procurement of government land in Lira City.

Etwop who is also a city mogul and director of two top companies, Rhino Oil and a construction company Tic Lokere was arrested by State House Anti-corruption Unit detectives Thursday evening from Kampala where he had gone to report and apply for possible bond extension.

The public relations officer for State House anticorruption unit Natasha Mirriam confirmed to Voice of Lango FM that they are holding Etwop but preferred not to divulge more details.

Etwop is being jointly accused with some Lira City officials for connivance and fraudulent purchase of three plots of land belonging to Lira City land located along Lira-Soroti highway commonly known by the locals as tipper.

He may be arraigned before the anticorruption court Friday according to sources at the anti-graft body.

Addressing the media early this year the deputy head of State House Anti-corruption unit Isreal Ochwo warned that they will continue to prosecute individuals who have connived and sold public land in Lira City.

In Lira, a total of 22 people are being prosecuted by State House Anti Corruption over fraudulent sale of public land. 4 people have so far been convicted over the same.
