Lira district NRM treasurer, Geoffrey Etwop who was arrested Thursday evening by detectives of State House the Anti-Corruption over allegation of illegal possession of public land is today expected to appear before the Lira Chief Magistrate Court.
Etwop a city mogul who is also the director of Rhino Oil and Tic Lokere, was arrested from Kampala where he had reported for a possible bond extension.
One of the investigators at the State House Anti-corruption Unit who spoke on condition of anonymity told Voice of Lango FM that Etwop will be brought to Lira Friday morning where he is expected to be arraigned before court at 2pm.
Etwop is accused of conniving with civil servants of former Lira Municipality including then physical planner Geoffrey Omara and deputy town clerk to illegally procure three plots of public land located at tipper stage.
The public relations officer for State House anticorruption unit Natasha Mirriam confirmed to Voice of Lango FM yesterday that they were holding Etwop but preferred not to divulge more details.
Addressing a joint media conference in January at Lira Hotel, the deputy head of State House Anti-corruption unit Isreal Ochwo warned that they will continue to prosecute individuals who have connived and sold public land in Lira City.
In Lira, a total of 22 people are being prosecuted by State House Anti-Corruption over fraudulent sale of public land.
