MP Acen donates 70 sewing machines to support girls’ vocational training

Alebtong District Woman Member of Parliament Dorcas Acen has donated 70 sewing machines to support training of girls in 14 Sub Counties in the district.

Acen handed over the sewing machines at Alanyi primary school, Abako Sub County during the belated celebrations for the International women’s day.

The sewing machines will be distributed to the 14 skilling centers in the different sub counties of Alebtong District which has an enrollment of over 500 trainees.

According to Acen, her focus is to support the livelihood of girls and women.

She rallied girls to take up vocational skills training at her Dorcas foundation for development putting aside risky lifestyles that puts them at risk of becoming victims of early marriage and teenage pregnancy. Acen also distributed 20 tons of maize seeds to women from different Sub Counties of Alebtong district.

RDC of Alebtong Gillian Akullo Omara rallied women to support their husbands in fending for their families.

The CAO of Alebtong Franco Olaboro said they are working to support women through different empowerment initiatives.

Susan Obero who represented chairperson of the women council of Alebtong warned women against battering their husbands.
